I hope you all are doing well, my family & friends. I know it's been over 3 weeks since I lasted posted something. However, I didn't feel comfortable with any of the poems that I had written during this time. As I'm sure you all know, the creative process is incredibly difficult. Though a part of me desperately wanted to throw something out there just to appease my promise of a poem a week, I felt that I would be slighting myself considerably to do that. My poem had to be worth your time. It had to be worth my passion. It had to be complete. So, without further ado...I present to you my poem. It is titled "Oh, Thinking Man" and it's dedicated to the beauty that is Chess. The ultimate test of patience, wisdom, strategy, foresight, and skill. Chess is not a game. It's an experience. I hope you enjoy and I look forward to your comments. Thank you so very much!
Oh, Thinking Man
I’m not complex,
My flat world is rather elementary,
But Thinking Man, I’m difficult to master,
Though you’ve tried for centuries.
Your quarters hold little space,
Only two of you embrace the confines,
You rule 32 and have control over all time.
Oh, Thinking Man,
I love that you are fascinated by my stage - you marvel,
In any shape & shade,
Be it metal, wood, or marble.
Oh, Thinking Man,
Yet you take me for a fool,
Why should I be distracted,
By those initially confused,
With no hope of traveling backwards.
Oh, Thinking Man,
You impress me,
Not the fastest, nor the strongest,
Your patience, your wisdom,
You’re cunning with the horses.
Oh, Thinking Man,
Your mind is a fortress,
You move so natural,
Just when I think I’ve cornered you,
You choose to castle.
Oh, Thinking Man,
I respect your faith,
How your gentry,
Is protected by the two highest in your ministry.
Oh, Thinking Man,
What a strange relationship that lives in your throne,
Her majesty holds all the influence, but her mate,
Brings your kingdom to ruin when he’s faced with no escape.
And I cringe at the thought of who best represents you Thinking Man,
That Fischer King,
Once captivated the world, now a recluse champion.
Still I long for the conflict,
The parks, the coffee shops,
The opportunity to see your thoughts build...
...and your empire fall apart.

Visions
Welcome back to my poetry blog. I hope you enjoy this week's entry. The subject is nightmares. However, while writing it, the topic of war entered my mind. Of how our supposed leaders ignorance & desire to be blinded from what history has already shown us may be our undoing. What I was able to create is a combination of two subjects. Thank you all for your support.
Visions
I close my eyes and I fall into that picture world of thought,
I see bi-planes, U-boats, and then a flash - 1914...I awake,
I close my eyes again, a deep slumber I await,
I see hazard tanks, swastikas, and then a flash - 1941...I awake,
I close my eyes yet again, a long rest now I pray,
I see skirmishes, Agent Orange, and then a flash - 1965...I awake,
I close my eyes once more, nervous to go to sleep,
I see brimstone, nuclear winter, and then a flash - I dare not say what year I see!

Are You The One?
First and foremost, let me welcome you to my blog. I appreciate my friends & family taking the time to visit my site and share their opinions of my work. Please feel free to discuss how the poetry made you feel or the thoughts that were sparked. Your comments will mean a great deal towards enlightening me on how literature can evoke a certain sentiment. With that said, I would like to invite you to preview the first installment of Poetry In eMotion. Moving forward, I shall contribute to this site my energy in words. There will be no customary format for my work. Some will rhyme; some will not. And the subject matter will vary. But what I can assure you is that there will be a purpose. And in the end, you will follow me through the experience and realize the essence of poetry.
Ladies & gentlemen, I present to you Darius "Literature" Lane. This week's selection is below. My first poetic entry is in 4-line stanza and the subject matter that I will be discussing is Barack Obama. This particular poem is short to start off with. Others will generally be longer. Enjoy.
Are You The One?
Are you the one?
Our hopes and our dreams, the man to lift us over the hurdles,
Are you the one?
Iron-will, gentle soul, he that realizes our prayers,
Are you the one?
Democratic you stand, his principles enlighten the nation,
Are you the one?
Forever fortunate we are, may you lead where only imagination dare take us.
Thank you all for your stopping by. I look forward to sharing with you my next entry. I will update once a week with my latest poem. God bless.
